What are the Factors you Need to Consider When Deciding Where to Ride your Horse?
Benjamin Wise asked:
The factors to take into consideration when deciding where to ride your horse are: where you keep your horse and your level of experience with horses. Other aspects such as whether you want to have a pleasure ride or to train your horse will also factor into the location of where to ride your horse.
Growing up in the country I had access to a vast area of dirt roads that lead to open areas for hacking and trail riding. Both the roads and the country posed their challenges, but I was never short of a place to ride. I did however have to face my fears and leave the safety of our property if I wanted to ride.
If you are learning to ride or if you have a new horse, the best place to ride your horse is in an arena. An arena offers a place of less distraction than a road or the trails; your horse is less likely to get a fright and panic. If your horse does panic there is usually help close at hand.
Riding in an arena should not be considered boring; it is a place to learn trust and confidence for both the horse and rider. Any horse no matter the breed or intended discipline to which he is being trained can benefit from being ridden in an arena.
When both horse and rider have a level of communication where the rider feels confident and in control then they can venture to ride outside of the arena. With the use of the word control I mean that in the event of “fight or flight” you will be able to react immediately with good riding skills and to regain your horse’s composure before he panicked.
The advantage of a big stable yard is being able to ask other riders where they ride. Not only will you learn specific trails, but also the hazards along those trails, such as a barking dog that never fails to respond to a horse passing its property.
A horse box is a wonderful means of transportation and certainly opens up the world for places to ride your horse. If you do not own a horsebox and can not afford to purchase one, you can always ask the help of other riders. Some riders will share their horse box just to have a companion on the trail; others will lend or rent you a horse box.
With a horse box you can travel to parks where there are specific trails or bridle paths for horses. You can travel to competitions where, if you entered the competition, you can ride your horse in the competition arenas. You could also take your horse to the competition and choose to ride him around there, in order to expose him to the environment.
When deciding to own a horse for riding, always take the time to explore and investigate places to ride before you find a place to stable your horse. That way you when you have to choose between the lunge ring or the arena, you are not bored and upset because it is the setting you chose. If it is however the only option you had at the time, start saving for that horse box.

Mustang Talk Volume IV Restoring the Punch of the Pony
Andrew Bernhardt asked:
Welcome to the latest edition of Mustang Talk. Part of the nature and history of the Mustang is something our rides just can’t shake. Namely, chicks invaded the Mustang turf decades ago, and never left. While we appreciate a little female presence at the clubs and shows, and don’t mind listening to the sorority chicks in the neighborhood describing the grinding sound her ignition makes in hopes that a fellow ‘stang owner would have a cheap fix, they’ve diluted the toughness of one of the baddest sleds ever formed from Detroit steel.
Sure, there are plenty of Boss Mustangs still out there, especially since the ’05 reincarnation of the famed ’67. But, for every Shelby GT or Saleen on the streets, there’s probably 50 or so white V6 convertibles with pink trim, bumping Madonna on the stock speakers and rocking a “Because I’m the Princess” plate frame. It got even worse recently, when Ford lots started slinging GTs like they were Festivas. Now you can’t even look for the dual exhaust as a sign of a real Mustang owner anymore. So, how is a guy going to keep his muscle car rep these days?
It’s a plain point to consider if you’re a man with a Mustang: simply having a V8 doesn’t cut it anymore. You need more juice, and you need to flex that power plant with regularity. The first part you need is a new exhaust system. Custom pipes give you the feel, sound and look of extra power—they’re a must for every GT. Next, you need more air rushing into the manifold. A high-flow air intake will do the trick. Last, but certainly not least—perhaps most importantly—you need a power programmer like Hypertech’s Power Programmer III. It plugs in under the steering column and tunes everything in just a few minutes that used to take hours with a wrench to complete.
Also, there are a few things you may want to remove from your ‘stang to keep it within manly regulations. Toss the dealership plate frames. Tell your girlfriend that her rose holder and hibiscus seat covers have got to go. Get rid of the factory wheels. Peel off any “Student of the Month” gear—make your kid earn your acceptance in ways that don’t ruin your paint.
Lastly, all men with any stake in the image of the collective of Mustang drivers must take a solemn vow: never, and I mean NEVER, give in to your daughter or wife’s whining for their own Pony Car. Keep the white and light green V6 convertibles with flower stickers and pink seat covers off the road. Let her know that if she wants to be your little princess, she can get a used Volvo and a hostess job. Confine the cute-ifying of cars to VWs, and protect the Mustang heritage for the good of all men with a stake in its resurgence.

Fun With Horse Riding Games
Connie Cusack asked:
Participating in horse riding games, which are highly exhilarating and intoxicating is every horse-rider’s dream. As a person gradually grows from being an amateur through to a professional this dream only gets stronger. This article will come as a boon to many horse-riding enthusiasts who want to know about the games that can be played mounting the horse’s back.
Horse riding games can be enjoyable for people of all ages and genders and at various level of skill. Certain games, especially those played by children, ponies are used. Different games are designed for the enjoyment of couples, individuals or teams.
Most of these games are enjoyed on the horse’s back and are played as individuals, paired or team events. Some games can be enjoyed by adults and children. One popular game for children are the Egg and Spoon Race. In this game the child rides on a pony, equipped with a spoon and an egg. While riding the horse he needs to balance the egg on the spoon which is held in his mouth until he reaches the finish line. Along with the joy riding on the horse, the child also learns concentration and balancing skills.
Another game is the horse-riding relay game which is played in pairs. It is also called a Pairs race. Each pair can use only one horse. In this event, one member of the team mounts the horse and reaches another point where their partner is waiting. On reaching their partner, the rider has to get off the horse and help their partner mount the horse. The pair that completes the entire event in the shortest time possible is declared as the winner.
There are many horse riding games which test the control of the rider over the horse. One such game is barrel racing where the individual has to complete a preset pattern formed by using barrels in the shortest time. Though this game originated as an event for women, it is equally enjoyed by both sexes in today.
Another game which tests the horse control skills, but is for professionals, is the barrel racing event. In this event, the rider has to manoeuvre the horse around a preset formation arranged by using barrels. This event initially originated for women horse-riding enthusiasts, but today, it is enjoyed by both sexes equally.
Another famous horse-riding game is steer wrestling. This is a bizarre version of bull fighting. In steer wrestling, the rider mounts the horse and chases the steer (a bull with long and sharp horns). On catching up with the steer, the rider has to jump off from the horse and wrestles with the steer by holding on to its horns. This event is highly risky since there are high chances of injury to the rider. Also, the animal rights community has raised its voice against the cruelty meted out to animals in this event.
Polo is a favourite horse-riding sport for people all over the world. This game is also a great pastime for the elite in society. The polo teams consist of 4 members each and their horses. The team with the highest number of goals at the end of the game is declared the winner. The members score points for the team by directing the wooden or plastic white ball into the goal post of the opposite team. The ball is hit using long wooden sticks called the mallet which is similar to the hockey stick but with variations. This game can be played either indoors or outdoors. It can be played during the bright and sunny summer season or during the cold and frozen winter season.
